Donald Trump’s penchant for self-aggrandizement has taken a strange twist, as MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough accuses the former president of “losing it” following a recent rally revelation. Trump claimed to have told a foreign leader that he would permit Russia to “do whatever the hell they want,” a blatant breach of the NATO treaty.

In a scathing critique reported by Raw Story on Monday, February 12, 2024, Scarborough highlighted the absurdity of Trump’s narrative, questioning the credibility of a scenario where a leader from a “big country” would plead, “Sir, if we don’t pay, what will you do, sir?” Labeling Trump a “jackass” and dismissing the story as “stupid,” Scarborough expressed disbelief that anyone in the audience would believe such an improbable tale.

“He is now so desperate to support Vladimir Putin and undermine America’s allies in Europe that he’s fabricating a ‘sir’ story?” exclaimed Scarborough. He further suggested that Trump’s lie did not even meet the former president’s usual standards, indicating a noticeable decline in his storytelling abilities. Drawing an analogy, Scarborough compared Trump’s current state to “when Elvis couldn’t even get the scarves from around his neck to throw to the audience.”

Continuing his critique, the Morning Joe host underscored the dangerous purpose behind Trump’s narrative. According to Scarborough, the former president’s readiness to concoct stories to rationalize backing Putin suggests a broader agenda. Scarborough cautioned that Trump’s actions are laying the groundwork for a potential return to power as an autocrat or dictator, aligning with Putin’s interests.

“This individual will resort to any means to justify defending and supporting Vladimir Putin and preparing us for… when he reassumes the presidency,” Scarborough stated firmly. The host’s concern revolves around the notion that if granted another term, Trump might evolve into a leader exhibiting authoritarian tendencies, mirroring troubling patterns observed in various countries.

Ultimately, Scarborough depicted Trump as losing his edge, likening him to a fading performer. The analysis portrays Trump not just as a storyteller whose narratives are falling apart, but also as a political figure with potentially concerning motives. As the political arena shifts, the lingering question is whether these narratives signal Trump’s decline or are part of a deliberate strategy to alter his public image. Only time will provide the answer.
