Attorney Considers Third Lawsuit Against Donald Trump by E. Jean Carroll

Former Elle columnist E. Jean Carroll may pursue legal action against former President Donald Trump for a third time if he continues to make public statements about her, her attorney Shawn Crowley stated during an interview on MSNBC’s “Inside With Jen Psaki.”

Crowley’s remarks came in response to Trump’s recent comments at a rally in Michigan, where he denied any wrongdoing towards Carroll, claiming he didn’t know her and labeling the lawsuits against him as unjust.

When asked about the possibility of a third lawsuit due to Trump’s statements, Crowley emphasized on Monday night that Trump’s claims were false. He pointed out that two unanimous federal juries had concluded that Trump did know Carroll, and that he had sexually assaulted her, lying about it repeatedly. Crowley asserted that Trump’s statements over the past five years regarding Carroll have all been lies and defamatory.

Crowley further commented, stating, “We’re closely monitoring the situation. We had hoped that the jury’s decision, awarding $83 million, might dissuade him from mentioning E. Jean Carroll, but his recent behavior indicates otherwise.”

Last month, a New York City jury ruled that Trump must pay Carroll $83.3 million in damages for remarks made in 2019, where he accused her of lying about allegations of sexual assault in a Manhattan department store dressing room during the 1990s, as reported by Newsweek. Trump has stated his intention to appeal the verdict.

In a separate civil defamation trial in May, Trump was ordered to pay Carroll $5 million in damages for denying her claims in 2022. He is also appealing this decision.

Carroll had previously hinted at the possibility of suing Trump again due to his post-trial conduct, which she claims continues to defame her.
