Former President Donald Trump was recently reminded of the harsh reality that a significant portion of GOP voters still appear reluctant to rally behind him for the 2024 presidential bid.

The Daily Beast reported on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, that despite securing the Republican nomination weeks ago, Trump’s support base seemingly appears less solid than anticipated as displayed in the recent Pennsylvania primary, raising doubts about his chances in the upcoming election.

The latest blow to Trump’s confidence came in the form of Nikki Haley’s unexpected gain in the primary, despite her withdrawal from the race over a month ago.

Haley managed to secure 16.5 percent of the vote, a substantial portion that translated to more than 155,000 votes.

For Trump, who won the primary with 83.5 percent, this represents a clear indication of dissent within Republican ranks, particularly in a crucial battleground state like Pennsylvania where every vote would matter, as pointed out in the report by The Daily Beast.

Anthony Scaramucci, Trump’s former White House communications director, delivered a blunt prediction regarding Trump’s future electoral prospects. In a candid assessment, Scaramucci predicted that Trump has little chance of reclaiming the presidency.

“Nikki Haley dropped out of the race over a month ago, yet she is polling nicely in PA,” Scaramucci wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter. “Trump has no shot to win the presidency. Write it down and study it. And if you are with him: CRY.”

The Daily Beast noted that the Pennsylvania primary outcome is emblematic of a broader trend observed throughout the primary season. While Trump continues to win primaries by significant margins, the presence of protest votes raises concerns about the depth of his support base.

Haley’s performance in previous GOP primaries in states like Wisconsin, Rhode Island, New York, and Connecticut further shed light on the persistence of dissent within Republican ranks.

Meanwhile, the media outlet also noted that President Joe Biden grapples with his own set of challenges, including a protest vote movement stemming from criticisms of his handling of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

In Pennsylvania, the “Abandon Biden” group has urged voters to write in “NO JOE” as a form of protest, mirroring the “uncommitted” votes that have plagued Biden’s campaign in other states.

Similar to Trump, Biden has encountered resistance in key battleground states like Michigan, where over 101,000 voters opted for “uncommitted,” comprising 13.2 percent of the total vote.
